In a recent controlled study, Argentine tango was shown to improve memory, multi-tasking skills, self-esteem, balance and motor coordination.
Patricia McKinley of McGill University in Montreal conducted a study of 30 seniors. The results are reported in the USA Today of Nov. 15, 2005 by Kathleen Fackelmann (link to the full article below). While those who took-up walking as part of the study also showed improvements in memory, the new "tangueros" took home the improved motor-skills and balance.
MiKinley chose tango because it's "fun to do and involves a series of complex moves that can improve balance." There you have it, folks. If you already dance, keep it up, maybe do more. If you've been thinking about someday learning, why not start now? You'll begin to see results in no time.
